We recently took a trip to California, driving from Utah through Nevada briefly through Arizona then Arriving in California. We hit the coast, took off our shoes and waded in the ocean. We stayed with relatives, listened to Wayne Dyer and did some gambling. We did everything on our “to-do” list and it was a much needed getaway.

One thing I didn’t mention that was on our to do list was to play the California lottery. I bought two tickets before leaving the state and waited for the lucky numbers to be revealed. Another thing I didn’t mention was that I asked my magic 8 ball if we were going to win money on this trip and it said “It is certain”. Literally, those were it’s exact words.

So, my wife kept noticing 8′s in the trip, super 8 motel, exit 8, and there was an 8 in almost every road sign we passed. She played a slot machine with an 8 on it and managed to turn 3 dollars into 9 dollars in a couple pulls. So technically the magic 8 ball was right in it’s certainty. Unfortunately, we put our winnings back into the slots so we didn’t walk away with any money. (I’ll be more careful how I ask the 8 ball questions from now on).

Anyway, back to the lottery, I’d like to tell you differently but the news is that we didn’t win. There was an 8 in one of the numbers but it didn’t do us any good this time ’round. I looked at the odds of winning the jackpot and they are presently listed at around 44 million to 1. I really believed we had a chance at winning so I’m glad to know that I am a true optimist.
